Affiliate Marketing vs. Google Adsense: Let the Battle Begin…

Lately there has been a lot of discussion on how to make tons of money with Google Adsense. In fact, many people are making the claim that Adsense sites can earn a higher revenue then an affiliate-marketing site.

So that brings us to an important question: Which is a better online business - Affiliate-Marketing sites or Google Adsense sites?

Let's explore each one and then find out which online business is better option:

Google Adsense

How do you like the idea of earning m*ney without dealing with customers or answering emails. This is possible when you run a Google Adsense site. With Adsense sites, you can have a virtual passive-income that requires little maintaining. But is this the best option for an online business?

Here are the positives of Google Adsense sites:

ˇ They are perfect for people who run information sites that have no related affiliate product

ˇ You can set it and leave it. With Google Adsense, you can create a content page, and there is little need to update the content.

ˇ Adsense sites are easy to scale. Since they require little upkeep, you can easily create multiple websites that each make a nice income.

Here are the negatives of Google Adsense sites:

ˇ They are not a great long term solution. Instead of getting your visitors to subscribe to a mailing list, you are focusing on getting people to click on ads. Real online businesses concentrate on building assets that can use for long-term growth.

ˇ These sites are dependent on search engines. Most Google Adsense sites make the mistake of depending on search engines for the majority of their traffic. If the SE algorithms change then your income might drop significantly.

Affiliate Marketing

Being an affiliate marketer is great for those who want build a theme site. With this type of business, you can easily create web pages around a topic and get people to buy products through your products. If done correctly, you can easily build a loyal following that will help you make money for years to come.

But can affiliate marketing make you more money then Google Adsense?

Here are the positives of affiliate marketing:

ˇ A great advantage of affiliate-marketing is that you can build a long term business that will bring in a revenue stream for years.

ˇ With affiliate-marketers you need to focus on building an email list. This list is a major asset of your business. Every time you have an offer, you can go to your list and increase your profits..

ˇ Unlike Google Adsense sites, which only concentrates on high paying keywords, an affiliate marketing site can be centered on a topic that you have an interest in.

Here are the negatives of affiliate marketing:

ˇ You have to learn how to write persuasively and get people to purchase the product that you are recommending. For many people this is a difficult skill to learn.

ˇ Each affiliate marketing site requires a lot of effort. You must spend a lot of time writing product reviews, building your email list and creating web content.

So which is better: Affiliate marketing or Google Adsense?

The answer is that both are great solutions for an online business. Instead of choosing one over the other, you should create websites that can take advantage of both.

Here is how you can do this:

1) Create a content site on a topic that you are interest in, while paying a good amount per Adsense click.

2) Integrate your Adsense into the menu bars and the top of your web content.

3) Add web pages for affiliate-products and your opt-in email list. But, make sure that you leave out the Adsense blocks on these pages. This way you are ensuring that you are building your long-term assets.

4) Create optimized web page articles that focus on a specific keyword phrase. Place your Google Adsense in these blocks.

5) Provide your email list with good content and product recommendations. Once in awhile, email your list and provide a link to some of your web articles. That way, you can earn a little bit of m*ney from your subscribers while giving them good content.

By focusing on both affiliate products and Google Adsense, you will be building both short-term and long-term profits.

New Google Blog Search is Great Marketing News for Business Podcasts, Blogs and RSS Feed Publishers by: Rodney Rumford

Google just introduced Blog Search in beta yesterday. This new search function allows for you to search the internet for Blogs, Podcasts and RSS feeds. You simply type in your keywords and it will show you results that have come from these sources.

The results they display are not showing any preferences to Blogs that are published on Blogger. We are seeing results for all Blogging platforms. Actually Google Blog Search is not just looking at Blogs. They are looking for any RSS feed, which might be from a Blog, Podcast, or any other XML feed. It appears that the search tool is pretty responsive and we are seeing results show up in a matter of hours after a new post is made to the RSS Blog and Podcast Feed. This is another way that you can create online visibility for your business.

The organic results are sorted by relevancy, but you have the option to sort them by date as well. This is especially nice if you want to locate the latest post for a fast breaking news topic and want to find it quickly in the blogosphere. The other thing that Google has done is to try to eliminate some of the “noise” and Spam of the blogosphere. They are looking at high quality Blogs and show them at the top of the page under what is called “Related Blogs”. This is prime real estate for your Blog to be listed in.

As an example: Go to the new Google Blog search ( http://blogsearch.google.com ) and type in podcasting tips. The results that are shown at the top 2 of the 3 Related Blogs happen to be authored by me. You will also see over 1600 results and we have several additional results on the front page. This is because we are writing 6 quality Blogs and publishing quality content frequently to these Blogs. http://blog.podblaze.com

Google currently does not support a manual submission for your Blog feed. I think this is smart, since it keeps the unethical people out of the picture. If you are Blogging or Podcasting properly and following best practices; your feed will be found by Google. Make sure that you are also following best practices for pinging after your feed is updated. This will ensure that your feed is updated by Google.

It looks like Google started to index Blogs, Podcasts and RSS feeds in June of 2005. They are currently not showing posts that were made previous to this. They may change this in the future. Google has found a way to somewhat keep the black hat SEO and unethical Bloggers out of the results. We can all celebrate this; because this means quality and relevant results for searchers.

Podcasters should also take note that individual podcast shows are also being listed in the results. This is a great way for users find your podcasts and individual podcast shows, based upon specific topics and content.

If you are serious about improving your marketing and the online visibility for your business website; then you need to be creating quality content with a quality Blog or Podcast. If your business wants to get maximum exposure in this important new area of Google you should work with professionals that truly understand this technology. Multiple Methods for Cultivating Inbound Links to your Website by: Bill Platt

UNDERSTANDING THE VALUE OF INBOUND LINKS ON YOUR WEBSITE

Besides search engines, the next most common way people move from one website to another is through links on other sites.

The reason that the Internet is often refered to a the "Web" is because it exists so much as a web of links running from one site to another in a maze more complex than the spider web from which it is named.

GETTING YOUR LINKS ON OTHER SITES

If you submit your site to search engines, provided you get good results on the keywords being searched for, you will get good results.

If you write articles that will be published by ezine publishers and webmasters, then the externally placed links to your website through your resource box can be very profitable. The resource box is an "about the author" paragraph, that you will attach at the end of your article.

If you are willing to share a certain amount of your profits with others, you can set up an affiliate program for your offerings, and then you can rely upon your affiliates to provide your inbound links for you.

If you participate in online forums dedicated to a certain topic, then your links placed with your signature can be very effective.

If you leave reviews for others to read on sites like Amazon or Cnet, then you will find a certain number of click-through's (CTR's) to your website.

If you sign guestbooks with your own link in place, you might be a little disappointed by your results.

If you use Free For All (FFA) pages, you will certainly be disappointed. The reason for the failure with FFA pages is two-fold. First, your link will be placed on an external site that rotates links. Your link may only be in place for ten minutes or two hours. Secondly, your link is often placed on a page that will likely never be seen by human eyes.

THE YIN AND THE YANG OF THE INTERNET

The Internet is a prime example of the benefits of the Yin and the Yang. What goes around, comes around.

The truth is that if you help others, others will help you.

If you provide outbound links on your site to resources that are not on your site, people will flock to your site to find the resources they are looking for.

What is more, if you provide a good resource to others, then webmasters, reviewers and publishers will be lining up to tell their people about your website. Thus, giving you more inbound links.

BEWARE THE DEAD END

If on the other hand, you construct your website as a dead end, you are bound to fail.

People who do website reviews and publish ezines do not tell their followers about dead end sites. The value of a single website is drastically reduced by a lack of outbound links.

After all, no one person is so brilliant that they can deliver everything their visitors want.

By the very nature of dead end sites, they will not be linked to by others, so their success or failure is entirely reliant upon search engine and email success.

If the owner of the dead end site does not send out tons of email advertising and it does not have good placement in the search engines, then the site will not turn big profits.

GOOGLE PAGERANK (PR)

Besides traffic earned by inbound and outbound links to a website, one should also consider ranking schemes like the Google.com PageRank scheme.

Because Google wants to provide their users the very best in information from their search results, Google employs a program called the Google PageRank. The basic premise is to provide a rating for a given website, based in part on the value of the content on the website, and more so, based on how many external sites with a PageRank of four or higher actually link to the given website.

To review the Google PR for any one domain, one must use the Google Toolbar ( http://toolbar.google.com ) in their Internet Explorer browser.

INBOUND LINKS ARE CRUCIAL

In order for a site to get a good Google PageRank, the site must have inbound links from other rated sites.

Let us return for a moment to the dead end site. We have already shown that the dead end site that has no outbound links, will very likely have few inbound links, if any.

When a site can boast of no inbound links, then the webmaster can rest assured that their likelihood of getting a good Google PageRank or decent Google Ranking is almost nil.

In order to build one's inbound links, they should strongly consider employing outbound links also.

PROTECTING YOUR INTERNET ASSETS

Most people who build dead end sites do so from a fear of sending their hard earned traffic to another domain.

Given the short attention span of many surfers, we always have to be concerned that redirected traffic may never return to our websites.

In order to protect your hard work and losing the distracted surfer, you should always place a target="_blank" inside of the href tag for all outbound links on your websites.

This ensures that a person who clicks on an outbound link will see the new page in a new browser window. So, once the surfer has reviewed the new site, they will have to actively shut down the browser window that your website still resides in.

This is extra special good news for people who have provided a great resource for web surfers. The more valuable a website is considered to be as a resource, the more likely that the web surfer will bookmark the website for future use.

BROKEN LINKS ARE NO GOOD

Some people have ventured to provide reviews of external sites or to publish articles that are targeted to their marketplace, but they have provided the information with broken links to the external sites.

This method serves no real protection for the webmaster, since the search engine spiders and publishers know that all of the outbound links return a "404 error, page not found."

A phony resource is not really a resource at all.

BUILDING YOUR INBOUND LINKS

To ensure the success of your website, you need to get to work building both your inbound and outbound links for your website.

Remember. What goes around comes around. Honor will bring you many rewards.

Your Online Home-Based Business Can Lead To Search Engine Stress by: Kirk Bannerman

As a member of several search engine optimization forums, I
have recently noticed (especially since Yahoo recently decided to
try their hand at competing with Google) that the stress level of
many webmasters has gone way up. This applies not only to
webmasters involved in Internet-based home businesses, but to
webmasters in general.

Additionally, it seems that many people that are in the business
of search engine optimization (SEO) are, with good reason, going
completely bonkers. As Google came on the scene in 1998 and
quickly dominated the search business, website optimization
became largely a game of shooting at a single target, namely,
pleasing Google...for all intents and purposes, Google became the
"800 pound gorilla" of the search engine business.

Since the advent of search engines (particularly Google) spawned
the whole SEO business, I guess its only fair that the search
engine industry can once again turn the SEO business on its ear,
and it seems now to be sort of a cat and mouse (not desktop)
relationship that can get really interesting as we move forward.

Not only are there now several viable players (most notably
Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and Ask Jeeves) in the search engine
business, but they are all adopting different and frequently
changing algorithms for determining the ranking positions for
websites.

The current game is that webmasters are trying to
figure out how the various search engines perform the rankings
and, on the flip side, the search engines are striving to be
unpredictable to those webmasters and SEO firms.

For those people using websites to promote home-based businesses,
it can be stressful constantly trying to determine "what the
search engines want" and agonizing over every downward
fluctuation in rankings that their website may experience.

Looking forward in time, I think we can expect that rankings will
fluctuate frequently and will not be at all consistent from one
search engine to another. It will be quite common that for a
particular search term a website might suffer a drop in position
ranking for search engine "A" and an increase position ranking
for search engine "B" at essentially the same point in time.

Rather than stressing out over every position ranking "wiggle", a
better approach might be to just focus on "what do visitors to
my site want?". The search engines are striving to give their
users a quality (relevant) search experience and if you are
focused in giving visitors to your website what they are looking
for, these paths will meet somewhere down the road.

You can save yourself alot of consternation by focusing upon the
needs of the website visitors you are seeking to attract, rather
than chasing the frequently changing ranking algorithms of
several search engines. Focus on a single target instead of
chasing several moving targets at the same time.

This article pertains to natural searches only, as paid search
engine advertising is a completely different situation.

Link Popularity: Why its the best investment you can do for your business. by: Marcio T. Dias

More and more search engines rank your web pages based on the number of links that point to your web site (link popularity).

Google uses link popularity as its most important factor in ranking sites. HotBot, AltaVista, MSN, Inktomi, and others also use link popularity in their formulas.

In the near future every major search engine will use link popularity, so developing and maintaining good link exchange campaigns are essential to the success of your business.

Also, finding the right partner to exchange links with is equally as important as becoming a member of a link farm can be devastating to your long term search goals.

Your exchange link partner should be reputable in the industry, and should provide links back to you on pages that have a high page rank.

The end goal is to have the greatest number of websites pointing to you saying on the link itself, “Your Company – Offering (insert your key phrases here)”.

For a good ranking on Google, Inktomi and Altivista, you need good links that point to your site. If you develop a strong content oriented site you can persuade thousands of other webmasters to link to you or to trade links with you.

If you want to do it yourself, all you need is the right content, the right email letter, and a keen eye for finding sites that well link to your site.

The key is to develop content people want to link to and then get out there and make the contacts by visiting people's sites, sending out personalized emails to webmasters of sites you have visited, and networking in discussion groups.

You can also make posts in forums related to your industry to increase your link popularity. Just do a search on any search engine with your industry + forums or discussions and you should be able to find a few discussion boards where you can make posts.

Make sure that you find a way to participate on the discussion as opposed to just posting an ad that's not related to what people are talking about.

Another way that you can greatly increase the link popularity of your website is by publishing articles. There are literally thousands of ezine and newsletter publishers that would love to publish your article on their ezine.

Again, if you search for ezines related to your industry you should find plenty of places where you can submit an article and see it bring lots of targeted traffic. Make sure you place your resource box at the bottom of the article and require publishers to keep it there.

That's it for now. For more info on how you could Get a High Ranking on Google in 3 Days, Visit www.WebProfitSecrets.com/FastonGoogle

Google Adwords: Here is why it can explode your business! by: Matt Bacak

The beauty of Google Adwords set up is its simplicity. Google programmers seem to be a close follower of the maxim taught by Edward Debono when it comes to simplicity. Signing up and getting started is very easy and takes a few minutes to get your campaign rolling.

If you are new to the Google Adwords programme, all you need to do is relax, and go through the simple steps mentioned below to get you started off on one of the most technically advanced advertising plans on the internet:

Step 1: Define the eyeballs:
The first step would be to define the target group for your advertisement. There are multiple fields to select from which help you get the geography and language preference of the audience set up so that your ads are shown only to the relevant audience. This process results in an Ad Group, and you can define multiple Ad Groups for various campaigns.

Step 2: Word your ad:
All Google ads are text based and they are displayed in varying font sizes and color to define order and importance. Once your Ad Group is defined, you need to start putting the advertising message together. This is a bit tricky as you need to get the communication within preset character limits. You can write a headline of up to 25 characters, and a two line message of 95 characters. It might be a good idea to take a look at other Google ads in order to understand the choice of words for the ad. After the descriptions are done, you can enter a display URL.

Once the ad itself is put together, you can select the keywords for which the advert should show up. You need to careful with your selection here as your selection of keywords is going to be the key to success (as well as critical for your billing at Google) of your campaign. You can get a lot of help from the keyword tool which helps you find alternate keywords as well. It is recommended that you start with a few keywords in the first place and then proceed to add keywords as the campaign progresses.

Step 3: Define the commercials:

Here's when we need to start sorting out the preferred currency of billing and display. Google does not allow you to change currency of preference once you have set it so you need to be sure which currency you would like to be billed in.

Google Adwords allows you to set pricing of each click. The system would suggest you a maximum cost per click (CPC) which you can choose or define a CPC which you are willing to spend. The 'Traffic Estimator' allows you to see a hypothetical scenario of the traffic you can expect with each type of CPC you choose along with the cost of campaign. This helps you in choosing the keywords effectively.

The commercial section does have a number of sub steps to follow! You now need to finally define what you would like to spend on the campaign. Google will display your ad only till such time the budget permits and then inform you about the expiry of budget. This feature allows you to stay within a pre-defined budget. Google Adwords also recommends a budget based on your previous selection. You can set your budget based on this recommendation.

Once you have completed setting your preferences on the system, Google Adwords gives you an opportunity to review all the details and then click on the final process of signing up for the service.

Step 4: Signing on the dotted line:
True to the rest of the process, the signing up process is really quite simple. All you need is a valid and frequently accessed email account and set up a password and you are ready to roll.

Getting started on Google Adwords is quite simple as you can see from the above steps. All the best with your online marketing campaign with Google AdWords.

Google AdSense – The text link ad with clout by: J. E. Johnson Author - J.E. Johnson (c) 2004. All rights reserved. www.SponsorDirectory.com

Webmasters place advertisements on their site to (hopefully!) help their web site visitors find additional information and products that are relevant to their site’s theme and therefore what those visitors came to their website looking for. Of course, it also helps if those advertisements also make money for the webmaster!

Unfortunately, serving advertisements online isn't always easy. Many advertisement companies offering the service of placing ads on our sites have managed to turn the advertisement business into one big mess. Thousands of sites are bogged down with non-relevant pop-ups, pop-unders, pop-ins and banners.

What happens to our sites if these advertisements rarely hit their mark? No matter how many banners and pop-ups we show about herbal remedies to our visitors if we run a website about car parts they will not be interested and they will never click on those ads.

Not only that, but this kind of untargeted advertisement can even have a negative effect on our traffic. Who wants to go to a site that requires us to close pop-ups every minute or for every page we view?

In order to have advertisements that are interesting AND relevant to our visitors there is now a program called ‘Google AdSense'.

Google AdSense is a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant, text-based, un-obtrusive Google AdWords ads on our website's content pages and earn money.

Since the ads are actually related to what your users are looking for on your site, you'll have a way to both monetize and enhance your web page content. The program is free, and Google pays you for clicks on the AdWords advertisements on your site.

Google offers their AdSense program to just about all website owners. After signing up for the program with Google you receive code to enter on the pages of your site and Google will dynamically generate ads that are relevant to your own web site’s content.

Whenever a visitor clicks on one of the links in the AdSense ad on your site Google credits you with a percentage of money that was paid by the advertiser for that ad.

AdSense also provides us with the option to be selective in which type of ads we want to display on our websites making it possible to send our visitors towards a certain type of products.

To make it possible for everyone to integrate AdSense into their sites the program offers a wide variety of settings that allow us to alter the ads appearance.

The Google AdSense program is incredibly accurate. By stepping beyond the boundaries of simple keyword matching it has become one of the most prominent tools to display accurate advertisements. A list of keywords is still used as the basis of triggering ads, but complex algorithms now ensure that ads that are not related to your site’s theme no longer show up.

An AdSense service can be set up within minutes from the comforts of your chair and by providing your website's visitors with a certain amount of directed ads you can generate for yourself anything from a small to a sizeable income through the use of AdSense.

To sign up for Adsense just visit http://www.google.com/adsense
